Byron Alston is the President
and Founder of “Save the Youth”, his mission is
embodied in its name. Mr. Alston’s credentials
are from the street and his education from the
Cell of a Michigan City Prison. As a young man
Byron was a General in a street gang in downtown
Indianapolis. Byron’s responsibilities included
the control of the drug trafficking into the
inner city, the operation of the prostitution
business and the discipline of gang members. All
of these events occurred at the age of 15. At
the age of 16 Byron was sentenced to 40 years at
Michigan State Prison for robbery, kidnapping
and confinement. While in prison his role did
not change. As a general in the prison Byron was
responsible for running the gangs.
Life changed dramatically for
Byron as he saw the other side of life. He has
used that past knowledge to become an effective
and relevant speaker on the issue of gangs and
violence. Byron has the rare ability to speak
with, for and to young people from both the
inner city and outside as he generates a
meaningful dialog with both young people and
adults. He is an intelligent young man who is
articulate and now uses his past as a platform
from which to speak. Byron’s life changing
message has been presented to schools, churches
and youth centers throughout the country. He
serves his community on various boards with the
Governor and the Mayor to provide effective
council on how we can help curb the violence and
the gang activity that is growing across
America. Byron has
teamed up with the Ten Point Coalition and other
organizations (listed below) to fight drugs,
violence and crime, he mentors in the prisons,
juvenile center and Indiana’s Plainfield Boy’s
School. Byron brings a wealth of information,
personal life experience and diversity into
every program he participates in. He can and
will make a difference with your audience as he
shares the stark reality of what it is really
like in the gangs and what we can do to make a
difference and “Save the Youth”!
